Rep. Barry Moore (R-Ala.) is projected to win the Republican runoff for Senate in Alabama, notching another win for President Trump this primary cycle, according to Decision Desk HQ.
Moore is Trump’s pick to replace Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), who won his own primary to lead the Cotton State as governor last month.
The House Republican on Tuesday defeated U.S. Navy SEAL Jared Hudson, after neither candidate garnered the majority support needed to win the initial May primary outright. The race offered voters a choice between Moore, who underscored his experience in elected office, and Hudson, a political newcomer.
Polling ahead of the runoff showed Hudson leading Moore by nearly 10 points. And a Cygnal poll from the Alabama Daily News and Gray Television in May found that Trump’s support, while impactful for some, is not decisive for many voters in the state he won by roughly 30 points in 2024.
But Moore pulled through on Tuesday and is all but assured to win the general election for the Senate seat, which Cook Political Report rates as solidly Republican.
Tuesday’s results are another win for Trump, whose primary picks have often prevailed in key contests this year — even ousting Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Sens. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Bill Cassidy (R-Texas).
