MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday said it will increase its visibility around schools after a Grade 8 student allegedly stabbed seven Grade 5 students in Cavite.
“We sympathize with the victims and their families, and we assure the public that the PNP is taking this matter seriously,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement.
“Violence inside educational institutions is unacceptable, and we will work closely with school authorities and local government officials to prevent similar incidents from happening again,” he noted.

The knife attack came on Tuesday morning at a private school in General Trias City, a day after some private schools began classes.
The suspect, a 14-year-old, was turned over to local social welfare officials for proper medical and psychological evaluation.
“Investigators are still looking into how the weapon passed through the school gates undetected,” Nartatez explained.
He noted that he had directed the Police Regional Office Calabarzon and the Cavite Provincial Police Office to conduct a full investigation “to maintain public safety and ensure that educational facilities remain completely secure environments for Filipino learners.”

“I am deeply concerned by this incident because schools should always be safe spaces for learning and development,” Nartatez further said. /das
