TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol— Repair works on the damaged approach of Bato Bridge in Barangay Cabawan, Maribojoc town, Bohol, have been further delayed after floodwaters from the Abatan River overflowed due to high tide, rendering the area impassable and hampering ongoing rehabilitation efforts.
Photos shared by residents showed floodwaters inundating sections of the roadway leading to the bridge, preventing passage of vehicles and pedestrians.
The water levels reached 1.2 meters on June 15 and were expected to rise to as much as 2.1 meters the following day, worsening conditions around the bridge and nearby roads.

Engineers working on the site reported that the damaged bridge approach remains unstable despite repair measures, including compaction work and the placement of limestone fill materials.
The affected section has continued to sink, complicating restoration efforts and raising concerns over the structural stability of the approach.
The bridge approach first showed signs of collapse on June 9, prompting authorities to close it to all traffic. Since then, residents, commuters, and students have faced significant disruptions in their daily travel. Some students have reportedly been forced to walk long distances to reach their schools due to the closure.
Local authorities continue to closely monitor the situation while repair crews await improved weather and tidal conditions before resuming full-scale rehabilitation work.
