President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards for Katsina State in a major move aimed at strengthening security operations and tackling persistent banditry and kidnapping across the state.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda announced the approval while briefing journalists after a high-level meeting with Islamic clerics and other stakeholders at the Government House, Katsina, where discussions centred on community-driven solutions to the state’s security challenges.
Radda described the approval as a significant boost to ongoing efforts to reclaim forest areas and rural communities from armed bandits, noting that the newly recruited guards would complement the operations of conventional security agencies and local vigilante groups.
According to him, the forest guards will be adequately trained and equipped to effectively monitor forests and remote communities that have long served as hideouts for criminal elements.
Radda said the engagement with Islamic clerics was part of efforts to mobilise communities against banditry and kidnapping, stressing that security agencies alone cannot end the menace without public cooperation.
