The Senate has summoned lawmakers to an emergency session on June 23 to deliberate on national security and other pressing issues of national importance.
In a notice dated June 15 and signed by the Clerk of the Senate, Emmanuel Odo, senators were directed to reconvene in the Senate Chamber by 11 a.m.
The upper legislative chamber had adjourned plenary on June 11 and was scheduled to resume on July 7.
According to the notice, the emergency session was convened at the instance of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
“The purpose of this emergency sitting is to enable the Senate to consider matters of urgent national importance, particularly issues relating to national security and other critical concerns that require immediate legislative attention,” the notice stated.
It added that the Senate regretted any inconvenience the session might cause and urged all senators to make the necessary arrangements to attend.
