MANILA, Philippines — The new Senate majority, under newly elected Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian, chose Sen. Francis Escudero on Wednesday, June 17, as the presiding officer of the coming impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Sen. Panfilo Lacson says it was not a quid pro quo for Escudero’s joining the majority. The reasons, he pointed out, was that Escudero is a lawyer and has had experience in as a senator-judge in an impeachment trial. /atm
