Prabowo extends Islamic New Year greetings to Muslim community

Bogor, West Java (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto extended a happy Islamic New Year greeting to all Muslims celebrating 1 Muharram 1448 Hijri.

"On behalf of the President and the government, allow us to convey a happy Islamic New Year, 1 Muharram 1448 Hijri to all Muslims celebrating," State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said at President Prabowo's residence in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday.

On that occasion, he also detailed the president's agenda in Hambalang on Wednesday, namely receiving a report on the implementation of Indonesia's 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.

The president also summoned several ministers, including Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto, to provide updates on human resource preparation through various ongoing education and training programs.

"Also an update on several related collaborations, regarding technology and critical minerals or rare earth metals," Hadi continued.

Previously, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar invited Muslims to use the Islamic New Year of 1 Muharram 1448 Hijri as a momentum for personal and social transformation.

"Hijrah is not just the Prophet Muhammad's physical migration from Mecca to Medina. It is a transformation of the social system, from a narrow and primordial tribal society to a global, cosmopolitan community bound by love," he remarked on Tuesday (June 16).

He further explained that hijrah is also interpreted as a change in perspective, from a tribal mentality to an inclusive, civilized, and oriented community life for the common good.

According to him, there are fundamental differences between various forms of social communities. A tribe is built on blood ties, sha'abun is based on extended family ties, qawmun is formed through social agreements and organizations, while hizbun refers to political groups or parties.

Umar also stated that the Muslim community is united by four elements: compassion, a vision for the future, authoritative leadership, and a polite and obedient society, within a single leadership system called the imamah.

"Only if these four elements exist in one community can it be called a Muslim community," he emphasized.
