EU must move from formulation of AI rules to implementation says Mattarella

The European Union must move from the

formulation of rules on artificial intelligence to their

operational implementation, President Sergio Mattarella said

Wednesday.

"Our countries must strengthen the innovation ecosystem," said

Mattarella, speaking at the COTEC (innovation society)Europa

Symposium, where the presidents of the Italian, Spanish, and

Portuguese COTECs signed a memorandum on artificial

intelligence.

"The EU must make a leap. It must move from the formulation of

principles to concrete decisions.

"The strategies have been widely discussed.

"The appropriate policies must now be implemented, moving from

the necessary formulation of rules to their operational

implementation.

"It is essential that the Union's member governments abandon

timidity and reservations and not act as a hindrance to common

action.

"The challenge we face is multifaceted and complex."
