
ILOILO CITY — The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) 6 (Western Visayas) gathered 33 competitors vying in 14 competencies for the WorldSkills Philippines Western Visayas Regional Skills Olympics 2026.
The event is being held in the municipality of Balasan, Iloilo.
The three-day showdown of skills kicked off at the Leon Ganzon Polytechnic College on Tuesday.

It serves as a platform to showcase the best technical and vocational talents in the region, while promoting industry standards, innovation and workforce excellence.

“Through the competition, participants are given the opportunity to demonstrate their competencies and prepare for higher levels of skills competitions, including national and international WorldSkills events,” the TESDA-6 said in a news release on Wednesday.
The 14 competencies are bakery, carpentry, cooking, electrical installations, fashion technology, graphic design technology, hotel reception, Information Communications Technology (ICT) Network Infrastructure, IT Network Systems Administrator, mechanical engineering computer-aided design, refrigeration and air conditioning, restaurant service, wall and floor tiling, and welding.
In his message, Deputy Director General for TESDA Operations Vidal Villanueva III cited the importance of skills development in building a competitive workforce.
