Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Tourism is targeting 19.1 million foreign tourists to visit Indonesia by 2027.
"We are committed to maximizing all available resources to ensure that tourism contributes more significantly to the national economy, generates employment, boosts foreign exchange earnings, and enhances public welfare," Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardahana said at a working meeting with Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The figure exceeds the government's 2026 target of attracting between 16 million and 17.6 million foreign tourist arrivals.
She outlined that priority programs next year will focus on developing quality and sustainable tourism, with priority activities including the completion of 10 priority destinations and the development of three regenerative destinations.
National economic growth is projected at 5.8–6.5 percent, with tourism-related sectors such as accommodation, food, and beverage targeted to grow at a faster rate of 8.7–9.3 percent.
To support this target, the Ministry of Tourism has formulated several interventions, including improving the quality of human resources, tourism marketing, developing quality attractions and events, strengthening sustainable tourism, developing destinations, and developing an inclusive industry and supply chain.
According to Widiyanti, tourism is also expected to increase its contribution by 2027.
Several targets have been set, including foreign tourist arrivals of 17.6–19.1 million, an increase of approximately 8.5–10 percent.
Foreign tourist spending, or Average Spending per Arrival (ASPA), is also targeted to reach US$1,447–1,497, an increase of approximately 5.5–6.6 percent.
The increase in foreign tourist activity is also expected to contribute US$25.5–28.6 billion in tourism foreign exchange, representing a growth of approximately 16 percent compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, domestic tourist trips are targeted to reach 1.28 billion, representing an 8.5 percent increase compared to 2026. The tourism sector is also targeted to absorb 27.33 million workers, representing a 3 percent increase.
The tourism sector's contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is targeted to reach 4.7–4.8 percent, representing an increase of approximately 0.4 percentage points. Tourism investment next year is targeted to reach Rp71 trillion (US$3.8 billion), representing an increase of approximately 11.8 percent compared to the previous year.
According to the Minister of Finance's letter, the Ministry of Tourism received a budget allocation of Rp1.01 trillion (US$54.8 million) to support the achievement of the KPI and address various strategic issues in the tourism sector.
