Joy Behar, a co-host of “The View” who has been a staunch critic of President Trump, on Tuesday said she doesn’t think Vice President Vance is a “bad guy” and said a face off between him and California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) in 2028 would be “interesting.”
“Truthfully, as I said to you in the beginning of this conversation, I don’t think that he’s a bad guy. So, if he runs against, say, Gavin Newsom, that’ll be an interesting debate to see those two because they’re both intelligent,” Behar said during an appearance on the show’s “Behind the Table” segment.
On Tuesday, Behar said she was tied to the Democratic party, noting that they have “good hearts” and care about the working class.
“They care about the poor, they help people,” Behar said of Democrats.
“The Republican party is much more about saving taxes for rich people. So I’m not a Republican,” she added.
Hours prior to the remark, she interviewed Vance alongside her co-hosts, trading intense questions about race, immigration policy and Trump.
“Maybe you don’t believe this coming from me, but I think everyone is welcome to our political coalition,” Vance told the hosts in response to Whoopi Goldberg’s inquiry about where people of color fit in the administration’s vision for the country.
“Frankly, even if you didn’t vote for us, everybody is welcome in our country, so as long as you’re an American citizen with the duties and the legal obligations and rights to be here,” he added.
The vice president also defended Trump on a number of topics ranging from inflation to the economy, where polls have shown falling satisfaction with the president.
Vance’s media presence has been lauded by the president, who has floated him as a top name for the 2028 GOP presidential ticket along with Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
