[This story contains spoilers for Love Island USA season eight, episodes one through 13.]
A lot can change in two weeks, especially in a villa with hot single Islanders searching for love. But add fan votes, messy recouplings and unfiltered challenges to the mix and things instantly get elevated, for better or worse.
At the end of week one, viewers saw the first Islander get dumped — Sean — and three more bombshells — Caleb, Jen and Sol — enter the villa to shake things up, and they most definitely did as week two unfolded.
Below, The Hollywood Reporter is recapping the standout moments from week two of Love Island USA season eight. And check out all of THR‘s season eight coverage and interviews here, as well as the week one recap.
Fans Stir the Pot
The results of the first fan vote of the season were revealed during episode nine, and it most definitely left the Islanders shaken and emotional. After the majority of America voted to have Caleb couple up with Kenzie, Sol with Sincere and Jen with Gabriel, the tears were flowing for some of the Islanders.
Seemingly the most emotional was Melanie (who was with Sincere), as she had already been going through it after Sincere expressed an interest in exploring things with Sol. “Honestly, I’m just happy to finally end this, like, triangle situation,” she told host Ariana Madix through tears, while standing in front of the fire pit. “Congratulations to you guys. I wish you the best on your couple. Congrats, Sol. I think America saw something that I didn’t.”
The vote ultimately left Melanie, Corbin (who was with Kenzie) and Beatriz (who was with Gabriel) single and vulnerable… which is what you never want to be on Love Island USA.
Heartbreak Island
The reason you never want to be single and vulnerable in the villa is that that’s when you’re most at risk of being dumped. And unfortunately for Beatriz, it was her time to go. Following the fan-vote results, Corbin, being the only single boy at this point, had to choose between Beatriz and Melanie to couple up with. He picked the latter, leading Madix to reveal that Beatriz had been dumped.
As several of the girls erupted into tears, she said, “Don’t cry, you guys. I’m not dying. I’m just going home single. It’s OK. I’ve made a lot of cool connections here. Not just romantically, but like the friendships I’ve built. I think this experience has taught me how to interact with people of just different backgrounds and like from all over. I’ve learned to appreciate the differences and the new people in my life.” Before leaving, she also shared a heartfelt moment with her former partner, Grabriel.
Let the Games Begin
One thing about Love Island is that they love a themed challenge, and with the FIFA World Cup underway, there was no better time for a soccer challenge during episode 11. Hosted by Telemundo broadcaster Frederik Oldenburg, the challenge saw the couples compete in a messy relay race that featured them maneuvering a soccer ball without their hands, eating a hot dog controlled by their legs, dumping slime on another Islander and having a passionate makeout session in the shower (yes, just what we needed… more kissing).
Despite the challenge being all fun and games, some truths were also revealed when the couples had to answer “Red Card” trivia questions and ended up calling out some Islanders as a result.
Elsewhere during week two, Aftersun co-hosts Ciara Miller and Tefi Pessoa also made a special appearance in the villa for the “Sweet As Pie” challenge in episode nine. The drama definitely got heated during the challenge, as bombshell Sol bared the majority of the negative questions, leaving her with multiple pies in her face for allegedly “breaking girl code.” Clearly upset, as she was just doing her job as a bombshell, Sol walked away from the challenge at one point.
Getting Hot in the Hideaway
Things get extra spicy in episode 12 after Zach and Kayda were chosen by their fellow Islanders to be the first couple this season to spend an intimate night in the Hideaway, the show’s private suite. And let’s just say, they weren’t subtle at all about getting down and dirty in the sheets.
“There’s a mirror you pull and there’s like a bunch of sex toys,” Kayda revealed to the girls the following morning. “We honestly didn’t use anything except a condom.” Although clips earlier in the episode told a different story, with them seemingly playing with handcuffs and a whip. Zach also told the boys, “We did everything,” as the whole villa erupted in cheers.
Kenzie Causing Chaos
Melanie may have been having a meltdown during week one, but Kenzie was the one causing chaos during week two. She’s found herself in her own love triangle, while being coupled up with Caleb but also continuing to explore her connection with Corbin, who is currently coupled up with Melanie. Though exploring connections is the whole point of the show, it seems Kenzie has taken it to a messy level, deciding at the end of episode 12 to keep a kiss she shared with Corbin a secret, despite telling Caleb she’ll be honest with him and where their relationship stands.
“When I’m with Corbin, I really want to kiss him and jump his bones. Like honestly, he makes me horny as fuck. I can’t help myself,” Kenzie said during a confessional after making out with Corbin secretly in the bedroom. After their kiss, she also asked Corbin, “Let’s not tell anyone that we kissed because it’s going to blow it up.”
Oh yeah, cause keeping secrets have never backfired, huh? “What I’m doing is not wrong. I’m actually doing what every Islander should be doing here, exploring everybody, etc,” Corbin said during his confessional. “But I just hope it stays quiet for the time being because drama will fucking start. Fuck the repercussions, bruh.”
Following all the back and forth, the love triangle seemingly came to an end in episode 13, leaving one heartbroken. Keep reading to learn if it was Caleb or Corbin.
The Couples (For Now)
Despite the fallout from a fan vote, multiple recouplings and quite literally messy challenges during week two, at least the week ended with some clarity. It seems like the love triangles have ended for now after the Islanders wrote love letters to the person they truly wanted to be with. Unfortunately, two people — Caleb and Sol — didn’t have their feelings reciprocated, as Sincere recoupled with Melanie and Kenzie with Corbin (So basically we’re back to how it all started, even after all that drama). But Caleb and Sol didn’t get dumped from the villa, and Madix revealed they’re actually in a couple now.
Who knows what’s in store for week three, but with the results of another fan vote looming and Casa Amor approaching, things will undoubtedly continue to heat up. Here are the current pairings as week two comes to an end:
Aniya and KC
Sol and Caleb
Kenzie and Corbin
Jen and Gabriel
Kayda and Zach
Melanie and Sincere
Trinity and Bryce
New episodes of Love Island USA drop Thursdays through Tuesdays, with Love Island Aftersun (hosted by Ciara Miller and content creator Tefi Pessoa) airing every Saturday.
