NBC and Macy’s are gearing up for a buzzy July 4 celebration in New York City.
The 50th Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks special, which also coincides with the nation’s 250th Independence Day, will feature performances from Noah Kahan, Post Malone, Salt-N-Pepa, Bebe Rexha, Shaboozey and Blake Shelton, it was revealed on Wednesday.
That is, of course, in addition to the fireworks show expected to light up the New York City skyline with more than 85,000 shells in 30 vibrant colors. The fireworks will be paired with a laser show from the Brooklyn Bridge.
In all, the show is expected to span the lower East River in the Seaport District, the lower Hudson River in collaboration with Jersey City and the Brooklyn Bridge, firing from six barges and providing miles of public viewing.
The show’s 27-minute score is produced by Grammy winning composer Jason Howland and will feature a live performance from The Voice Season 29 winner Alexia Jayy. The soundtrack is “inspired by the enduring spirit of America” and “reimagines the iconic sounds of more than 50 years of beloved summer classics,” per NBC.
“This year’s broadcast will be especially meaningful as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of America and the 50th anniversary of ‘Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks,’” Jen Neal, Executive Vice President, Live Events and Specials, NBC & Peacock, said in a statement. “This beloved live event creates a shared moment for viewers across the country while showcasing the powerful reach of both NBC and Peacock.”
Adds Will Coss, Macy’s 4th of July executive producer: “Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks delivers the largest Independence Day celebration in the nation through a show-stopping spectacle that reminds us of the power of connection and shared experience. We’re proud to honor our 50th Fireworks with an expanded show, never-before-seen effects and music’s biggest stars for a truly unforgettable celebration.”
The telecast will air live on Saturday, July 4, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC with a simulcast on Peacock. The special will also air on Telemundo. The special is produced by Jesse Collins Entertainment with Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay executive producing.
