EXCLUSIVE: Vice Studios and sports journalist Pablo Torre are teaming up to develop a scripted television drama series.
Details are under wraps, but the series is said to center on sports ownership, extreme wealth, and corruption. Torre and Vice Studios President Amy Powell will be on the ground with the project next week at Cannes Lions.
Torre is best known as the host, executive editor, and co-owner of the Pulitzer Prize-winning, Emmy-nominated and Peabody Award finalist Pablo Torre Finds Out. The podcast, from Meadowlark Media, launched in September 2023 and was named one of Time’s 100 Best Podcasts of All Time. In 2025, he partnered on the podcast with The New York Times and The Athletic and was the 2026 recipient of the Podcast Academy’s Podcaster of the Year honor. He and his staff won the 2026 Pulitzer Prize for Audio Reporting for investigating how the Los Angeles Clippers allegedly evaded NBA salary cap rules by funneling money to star player Kawhi Leonard.
Torre has been recognized by Sports Illustrated as one of the “50 Most Influential Figures in Sports” and won the Edward R. Murrow Award in 2022 and 2024. He is a regular contributor on MSNOW and ESPN, where he previously served as a senior writer for the magazine. He also spent time as a staff writer at Sports Illustrated. Torre graduated from Harvard College, where his study of child homicide in America won the Fulton Prize for the best thesis in sociology.
Vice Studios recently announced that it has secured global rights to adapt the Payday video games, in partnership with Starbreeze Entertainment, for television and film. The studio also recently partnered with breakout author Anika Jade Levy on a series adaptation of her critically acclaimed debut novel Flat Earth.
