Warner Bros. has found its villain for its Ocean’s Eleven prequel.
Wagner Moura, who earned numerous plaudits for his starring work in 2025’s The Secret Agent, is in negotiations to join Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper in Warner Bros. Pictures’ untitled Ocean’s Eleven prequel.
Cooper is directing on top of starring while Robbie producing via her LuckyChap banner. The company’s Tom Ackerley is also producing. The feature is expected to begin shooting in late July in Paris before moving to the south of France.
The hit Ocean’s movies centered on mastermind Danny Ocean and his pals pulling off elaborate thefts around the world. George Clooney played the character in the films directed by Steven Soderbergh.
This is one, however, will not see Clooney and company returning. The new yarn is a period piece, set at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.
“Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows…his parents,” Robbie teased at CinemaCon earlier this year via a sizzle reel.
Robbie and Cooper are understood to be playing the parents.
Character details are being kept in the racing pit but Moura is said to be playing the story’s villain. The Ocean’s movies frequently cast notable actors as the antagonists-slash-marks of the schemes. Andy Garcia was the antagonist in the movie that kicked off the franchise in the 21st century while Vince Cassell and Al Pacino played the bad guys in the subsequent sequels.
The well-regarded Moura became an international name thanks to Brazil’s Elite Squad movies as Netflix’s Narcos TV series. It was his starring turn in last year’s political drama Secret Agent, however, that really captured Hollywood’s attention. The movie rode a wave of awards love – Moura won best actor at the Cannes Film Festival as well as best actor (drama) at the Golden Globes – before earning a best actor Academy Award nomination. Secret Agent additionally notched noms for best picture, bast casting, and best international film.
Since then, the actor appeared as one of the lead voices in Lucasfilm’s Star Wars animated series Maul: Shadow Lord and will be seen starring with Greta Lee in horror thriller The Last House, directed by Louis Leterrier, which Netflix unveils Aug. 7.
