The New York Knicks are taking over the Canyon of Heroes.
After clinching their first NBA championship in 53 years, the Knicks will be honored with a ticker-tape parade in Lower Manhattan on Thursday, June 18. The celebration is scheduled to kick off at 10 a.m. ET near Battery Park before traveling north along Broadway through the famed Canyon of Heroes and ending at City Hall, where the team will be honored in a ceremony. Alicia Keys is set to close out the ceremony with a performance of “Empire State of Mind,” around 1 p.m. ET.
The Knicks parade will be broadcast on several local channels such as ABC7 New York, NBC 4 New York, CBS News New York, Fox 5 New York and MSG Network. But the best way for cable-cutters to stream the parade live online is through a live TV streamer such as DirecTV, Sling TV and Hulu + Live TV.
However, local affiliates are often only available in select markets so if you’re outside of New York, you’ll want to sign up for a VPN to access the stream. ExpressVPN currently offers a free trial.
The long-awaited celebration comes after the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, securing the franchise’s first title since 1973. Jalen Brunson led the championship-clinching win with a 45-point performance, including a dramatic fourth-quarter push that helped seal the comeback victory and earned him Finals MVP honors.
The parade marks a historic moment for both the franchise and the city. The Knicks’ last championship came in 1973, making this year’s win the end of one of New York sports’ longest title droughts. The championship-clinching Game 5 was also a major TV draw, averaging 24.5 million viewers across ABC and ESPN and peaking at 33 million during the Knicks’ fourth-quarter comeback. The full Knicks-Spurs series averaged 20.6 million viewers, making it the most-watched NBA Finals in decades.
