(NewsNation) — Scotland’s World Cup fans came to Boston thirsty, and even Sam Adams has struggled to keep up with the Tartan Army.
The brand’s downtown Boston taproom ran out of its signature lager over the weekend after fans drank it dry, a spokesperson told NewsNation.
From Thursday to Sunday, Scottish soccer fans drank four times as much Boston Lager as the taproom typically serves during a four-day holiday stretch, emptying nearly 90 kegs.
Sam Adams communications manager Devon Savage said the taproom sold more than 4,000 pints of Boston Lager and has already scheduled four “emergency deliveries” to keep up.
Thousands of Scotland supporters, known as the Tartan Army, have descended on Boston as the country makes its first World Cup appearance since 1998.
Fans have brought plenty of Scottish flair across the Atlantic, filling the city with bagpipes, kilts and good cheer.
Scotland opened the tournament with a 1-0 win over Haiti and will face Morocco in Foxborough on Friday — giving Boston bars at least a few more days with the Tartan Army.
And they may not get much of a break: England’s fans are coming to town next.
