Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta's provincial government plans to partner with Netflix to support its ambition of becoming a cinema city, with the collaboration expected to strengthen the film industry, create jobs and attract more visitors.
Deputy Governor Rano Karno said the initiative was part of a broader strategy to develop the film industry and other creative economy sectors while generating tangible economic benefits for the Indonesian capital.
Speaking in a statement on Thursday, Rano said the city was committed to building long-term cooperation with Netflix following talks held during the Asia Pacific Video Operators Summit in Bali on June 18.
He said the administration viewed the partnership as more than an investment opportunity, describing it as a platform to develop local talent, expand employment, boost tourism and support community-based programs.
Three Netflix film and series projects are expected to be produced in Jakarta, Rano said, without providing details on the titles or production schedules.
The two sides have also begun designing a human resource development program aimed at equipping Indonesian talent with skills needed by the rapidly evolving film industry.

Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency head Andhika Permata said the partnership could attract more international productions and stimulate growth across related sectors, including music, fashion and culinary businesses.
He said stronger creative economy activities would help drive Jakarta's economic growth while increasing the number of domestic and international visitors.
Netflix Asia Pacific Public Policy Director Ruben Hattari said local content played an important role in the streaming platform's growth and audience expansion across global markets.
He cited the series "Gadis Kretek" and the film "Abadi Nan Jaya" as examples of Indonesian productions that gained international exposure through Netflix.
Netflix Asia Pacific Vice President Andrew Ure welcomed Jakarta's cinema city vision and said the Indonesian capital had strong potential to become one of Southeast Asia's leading destinations for film production.
