LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Calamba City Mayor Roseller Rizal in Laguna province has ordered barangay officials to conduct dredging, desilting, and clearing operations in creeks and other waterways as the rainy season begins.
In a memorandum written in Filipino and posted on his official Facebook page, Rizal directed all barangay captains to immediately carry out road and waterways clearing activities within their respective areas of responsibility.

Barangay officials were also instructed to submit brief reports and photos of their operations to the city government through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office within five days of implementation.
Rizal also urged residents to cooperate in maintaining environmental cleanliness to help prevent flooding and other rain-related hazards.
“Strict compliance with this memorandum is expected to ensure the safety and preparedness of our citizens during the rainy season,” he said.
Earlier this month, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration officially declared the start of the rainy season.
The rainy season typically brings heavy rainfall and result in flooding, landslides, and waterlogging in vulnerable areas./coa
