Semarang, Central Java (ANTARA) - Deputy Head of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Sonny Harmadi assured that the 2026 Economic Census has no connection with taxation interests, so the public does not need to be worried about answering questions from census officers.
"It has nothing to do with taxes. We ensure that data confidentiality is protected," he said here on Thursday.
Therefore, he said, the public is required to provide accurate data during the census implementation.
He noted that the 2026 Economic Census will not only collect data on business actors but also cover households.
Nationally, he said, there are 32 million business actors that will be covered by the census. In addition, he added, 289.3 million people from 95.3 million households will also be targeted by the census.
Harmadi explained the important role of the Economic Census data for Indonesia's economy.
He said that well-targeted development must be supported by quality data. According to him, the target of 8 percent economic growth can be achieved if the country is able to understand its economic structure as thoroughly as possible.
He said the census data will also be beneficial for regional governments. "The census data will comprehensively map the conditions of each region," he said.
The 2026 Economic Census will be conducted from June 15 to August 31 across Indonesia.
Earlier, Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said that the economic potential of districts and cities would be mapped through the 2026 Economic Census.
Census officers will carry out daily visits to conduct data collection on business units and households one by one and ensure that none are missed.
BPS expected the support from the government, all stakeholders, and the public to ensure the 2026 Economic Census runs smoothly and successfully.
