Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono will underscore economic integration and cooperation in energy and food sectors during the ASEAN-Russia Summit in Kazan, Rusia.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela here on Thursday said Sugiono, as the head of Indonesia's delegation, attended the ASEAN-Russia Summit on June 17-18, 2026 on behalf of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
"During the meeting, Indonesia will advocate the strengthening of cooperation, especially in food and energy security and inter-regional economic integration," Mulachela stated in recorded remarks.
On the same occasion, Indonesia will also push for cooperation for global peace and stability. He added the Kazan summit is organised to review the ASEAN-Russia partnership in the last 35 years and to set the direction for future cooperation.

The future cooperation between ASEAN and Russia, Mulachela said, must be relevant to respond to regional and global issues.
"The presence of the foreign minister, on behalf of Mr. President, reflected Indonesia's commitment to strengthening concrete and mutually beneficial partnerships with Russia, bilaterally or in the framework of ASEAN cooperation," Mulachela remarked.
The ASEAN-Russia Summit in Kazan was organised in conjunction with the 35th anniversary of the ASEAN-Russia partnership.
In his remarks, during the ASEAN-Russia Summit reception on Wednesday (June 17), Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated Russia's readiness to continue its strategic partnership with ASEAN.

Putin stated the partnership with ASEAN is important in the interests of ensuring the security, well-being, and prosperity of our countries and peoples, as well as the broader Eurasian region.
Meanwhile, President Subianto's intention to address domestic issues was behind the decision to stay in Indonesia and delegate his attendance to Sugiono for the ASEAN-Russia Summit, State Secretary Minister and Presidential Spokesperson Prasetyo Hadi said on Wednesday.
President Subianto had met President Putin on April 13 and also attended the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines, where he met leaders from ASEAN countries.
