Sumedang, West Java (ANTARA) - Deputy Home Affairs Minister Bima Arya Sugiarto stated that the circular on public viewing events for the World Cup was issued to encourage regional governments to capitalize on the momentum to stimulate regional revenue.
During a visit to Jatinangor, Sumedang, on Thursday, Sugiarto said that the Home Affairs Minister's Circular No. 400.2.7/4657/SJ was intended to create economic activity amid strong public enthusiasm for the World Cup.
"(Regarding the circular), the minister wants regional original revenue to continue increasing and local economies to keep moving. One way is by encouraging regional heads to hold public viewing events," he remarked.
He explained that leveraging the momentum of the international sporting event is expected not only to provide entertainment for the public but also to generate real economic benefits in the regions.
According to him, various activities organized by regional governments can create business opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) while boosting local economic activity.
"This is not only about bringing young people together in relaxed gatherings, but also about invigorating the economy," he said.
Sugiarto also revealed that the central government lauded the various measures taken by regional heads in following up on the circular through activities involving the wider community.
He noted that several regional leaders had reported organizing various events to welcome the World Cup, helping to enliven public spaces while stimulating local economic activity.
He added that the World Cup momentum is expected to generate a multiplier effect on regional economies, similar to the impact of collective leave policies and long holiday weekends.
"We hope the World Cup momentum will not only be about watching the matches, but also about boosting the economy," he remarked.
