
MANILA, Philippines — The Partido Demokratiko ng Pilipinas, also known as the PDP-Laban, recognizes the Senate presidency of Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian, the party’s ex-president Sen. Robin Padilla said on Thursday.
Gatchalian was elected as Senate president on Wednesday with the vote of 13 members of the chamber.
“The party has accepted the proclamation of Senator Win Gatchalian as the new Senate president because he garnered 13 votes, in accordance with the Constitution,” Padilla said in a social media post.

The senator also belied reports that he allegedly makes some moves in the Senate for his own interest.

He clarified that his alignments during the Senate leadership chaos depended on the position of PDP-Laban.
“From the 19th Congress until the recent leadership change, I did not meddle on who should become the Senate president,” the senator said.
“The claim that I have a personal interest so I have my biases is a huge lie. My vote is aligned with the advocacies of the Partido Demokratiko ng Pilipinas/PDP Laban,” he noted.
