Defence minister said expenditure must rise and his cabinet colleague knows it

Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti

on Thursday denied being at loggerheads with Defence Minister

Guido Crosetto over increases to defence spending.

On the sidelines of a NATO meeting in Brussels, Crosetto said

parliament had approved a plan to increase defence spending by

0.15% of GDP this year and next and by 0.20% the year after,

adding that there is no alternative and Giorgetti "knows it".

"I know the timeframe and the method and the amount does not

depend on me, " Giorgetti told reporters.

"We are managing everything else, there is no row about this".
