At Cadela Carlota, we are constantly reminded that caring for vulnerable animals is truly a community effort. This month, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the volunteers, supporters, and local businesses who continue to stand alongside us and help make our work possible.
Last weekend, some of our dogs attended the 5th anniversary celebrations at Indigo Bar in Lagos. Zaida, Wolfi and Linda received a wonderful welcome from staff and customers alike, and we were overwhelmed by the generosity shown through donations and support. Events like these are about much more than fundraising. They allow our dogs to spend time in different environments, socialise with new people, build confidence, and increase their chances of finding loving homes.
Zaida and Wolfi are still searching for their forever homes after recent adoption attempts unfortunately fell through. We had announced Zaida’s adoption only recently, but despite extensive preparation and several introductory visits, the placement was unsuccessful when the resident dog was unable to accept her into the home. For the welfare and safety of both dogs, Zaida returned to our care.
Wolfi has experienced a similar disappointment in the past. As many rescue organisations know, even when every effort is made to ensure a successful match, not every adoption works out as hoped. While these situations can be heartbreaking, they never diminish our commitment to finding the right homes. Both are truly affectionate dogs with so much love to give, and we remain determined to find the families where they will truly belong.
We are also looking forward to our next community event at Collab Lagos on Sunday, June 28, from 10.30am until 12 noon. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet some of our dogs, learn more about our work, and support the shelter. These events are invaluable, helping us raise awareness while giving our dogs important opportunities to socialise and interact with the public.
The support generated through these activities helps fund essential veterinary care and rehabilitation. Recently, Kikas and Scott travelled to Alcabideche, near Lisbon, for specialist consultations and MRI scans with Dr João Ribeiro at Referência Veterinária. Kikas is currently being assessed for a loss of mobility, while Scott is undergoing investigations into balance issues.
The journey was long, but both dogs returned to Lagos safely and are now enjoying some well-earned rest. We would like to express our sincere thanks to Dr João Ribeiro and the entire team at Referência Veterinária for their expertise, kindness and dedication.
Every donation, every volunteer hour, every event attended and every share on social media helps animals like Wolfi, Kikas and Scott. Together, we are giving them the second chances they deserve.
