Elderly pedestrian dead in Rizal road accident

LUCENA CITY, QUEZON, Philippines — A 70-year-old woman died after being struck by a passenger jeepney on Wednesday, June 17, in Pililla, Rizal.

A report from the Police Regional Office 4A said the victim, identified only as “Nene,” was attempting to cross a road in Barangay Niogan on Wednesday morning when she was hit by a passing jeepney driven by a 22-year-old man identified as “Justine.”

The victim sustained fatal injuries and was rushed to a hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

During the investigation, the driver told police that he was temporarily blinded by a bright light from the opposite direction.

He said he swerved to the left side of the road to avoid a collision with another vehicle, but accidentally struck the victim.

The driver remains under police custody while authorities continue their investigation.
