Diesel spill causing cars to slide on busy road in Auckland's Takapuna

A diesel spill on a key road in Auckland's North Shore is causing traffic delays.

Police warned drivers of the spill on Lake Rd in Takapuna on Friday morning.

Several motorbikes, bikes and cars have slid on the substance, police said.

The diesel may have been tracked from Esmonde Rd to Devonport, police said.

Emergency services were in the area while the situation was dealt with.

Commuters were asked to avoid the area if possible or expect delays.
