The Kebbi State Police Command said it has arrested three suspected members of the Mamudawa, four Lakurawa and their logistics suppliers in different areas of Kebbi State.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, while briefing journalists, said the Police Mobile Force attached to Illo Division in Bagudo Local Government Area of the state intercepted and arrested three members of the Mamudawa group while on patrol along the Illo-Lolo Road.
He said, “The suspects, Muhammadu Bandi, Aliyu Abubakar and Muhammadu Abubakar, were arrested while riding a motorcycle to Lolo town, allegedly to procure food supplies for other members of the group.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were linked to movements around the area during the attack that claimed the lives of three Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) personnel in Illo on June 4, 2026.”
Hadejia further disclosed that four suspected members of the Lakurawa group were arrested on June 7, 2026, at about 4.30pm by Police Mobile Force personnel on special duty along the Ka’oje-Bakin Ruwa Road in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi.
He added that the suspects were identified as Haruna Abubakar, Abubakar Lawali, Anme Shehu and Yahaya Shehu.
He said the suspects are being investigated for their alleged involvement in armed banditry in the Soda Forest in Bagudo, adding that the case is being handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi.
The command also arrested one Murtala Sani of Zazzagawa village for allegedly providing logistics support to Lakurawa members, including foodstuffs and soft drinks.
“He was observed on several occasions conveying one Amadu Umar, a suspected member of the Lakurawa terrorist group, from Zazzagawa town to a suspected criminal enclave in the area.
“The suspect is currently in custody and is assisting the police in ongoing investigations aimed at apprehending other suspects still at large,” he said.
