Antonio Tajani said Friday that he has cancelled a visit to the

United States planned for June 21-22 after US President Donald

Trump said Premier Giorgia Meloni begged for a photo with him

during the G7 summit.

"President Trump's serious and offensive words towards Prime

Minister Giorgia Meloni offend all of Italy," Tajani said via X.

During an event at the foreign ministry in Rome later on Friday,

Tajani added: "no one is allowed to offend Italy like the US

did".

Meloni said Trump's assertion was fabricated, stressing that she

never begs and neither does Italy.
