Defence Minister Guido Crosetto said
Friday the President Donald Trump's assertion that Premier
Giorgia Meloni begged him for a photo during the G7 summit was
not credible.
"I cannot imagine Giorgia Meloni asking anyone for a photo, not
even under threat," said Crosetto, a senior member of Meloni's
right-wing Brothers of Italy (FdI) party.
"I can, however, imagine how difficult it must have been for her
to set aside what Trump had said weeks ago, in the interests of
Italy, Europe, and the West," he added, referring to the
president's criticism of Meloni for Italy's stance on the Iran
war.
"And I can imagine how difficult it will be for her not to
comment on this latest faux pas by the U.S. President in the way
that it deserves...
"Remarks of this kind do no one any good: neither the U.S., nor
Italy, nor the alliance".
