Gorontalo (ANTARA) - Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka conducted a firsthand inspection of the Bulango Ulu Dam under construction in Bone Bolango District, Gorontalo Province, on Friday to ensure the national strategic project remains on track.
At the site, he received a briefing from a Public Works Ministry official, who reported that the dam had reached 94.99 percent completion.
The infrastructure is being built to strengthen flood control and supply raw water to local communities.
Gibran asked whether residents already had access to alternative water sources and was informed that communities currently rely on the Alale and Lomaya dams.
The vice president also used the visit to discuss progress on key construction activities, highlighting the finishing of the dam structure and the reservoir impounding process.
He also discussed the possibility of allocating additional funding for supporting works to maximize the dam’s benefits once operational.
Gibran is currently on an official working visit across several regions, starting with Ende District in East Nusa Tenggara on Thursday (June 18), where he reviewed the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals program at two locations.
The VP itinerary in Ende also included a visit to the revitalized Mbongawani Old Market, which is scheduled to reopen at the end of June 2026.
He then continued his tour to Gorontalo, arriving on Friday afternoon. In addition to inspecting the Bulango Ulu Dam, he also took 119 orphans shopping for school supplies and visited an elementary school that had previously been damaged by fire.
The Gorontalo visit will conclude with the launch of the National Farmers and Fishermen Week XVII on Saturday (June 20).
He is also scheduled to travel to West Papua to visit a cocoa production center in South Manokwari District and open the National Church Choir Festival XIV in Manokwari District.
Finally, the vice president will head to South Papua to inspect several public facilities, including the Asmat Museum of Culture and Progress, a field school, a general hospital, and a Catholic church.
