P4-M smuggled cigarettes seized in Dapitan City

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur – Police arrested a 41-year-old man in Barangay Potungan, Dapitan City, early Friday morning, June 19, and confiscated some 70 master cases of illicit cigarettes.

The suspect, a resident of Barangay Turno, Dipolog City, was nabbed in an intelligence-driven operation conducted by the Zamboanga del Norte Police Intelligence Unit, with support from other law enforcement units.

Authorities said the confiscated illicit cigarettes were valued at P4,011,000 based on the Bureau of Customs’ standard market assessment.

Investigators noted the absence of required tax stamps and graphic health warnings on the seized products.

Police said the suspect and the contraband were brought to the Dapitan City Police Station for proper disposition and the filing of charges for violation of Republic Act 10643, or the Graphic Health Warning Law. /jpv
