Ryan Lochte Claps Back at "Clowns" Saying He's “Unrecognizable” With New Hair Transformation

Ryan Lochte is swimming into a new chapter of his life.

The Olympian confirmed to TMZ on June 19 that he is engaged to girlfriend Molly Gillihan after one year of dating.

“I'm on cloud nine she said yes,” Lochte told the outlet. “I’m happy this is my new beginning, and I couldn't do it without her."

Lochte and Gillihan got engaged in Gainesville, Fla., at the same restaurant where they had their first date. They recently moved to Missouri, where the Olympic swimmer will be working as an assistant coach for Missouri State University's swim teams.

News of the couple’s engagement comes less than a year after they went public with their romance in July 2025. At the time, Lochte posted several photos of the two on Instagram, recapping their Fourth of July weekend in Florida.

The gold medalist and Gillihan took the next step in their relationship in January, moving in together along with Lochte’s children Caiden, 8, Liv, 6, and Georgia, 2—who he shares with ex-wife Kayla Reid—and Gillihan’s three kids from a previous relationship.

“I fell in love with someone who shares those same values and who has three children of her own,” the What Would Ryan Lochte Do? star told People in January. “Together, we’re a family of six kids. She’s my best friend, our kids have formed an incredible bond, and it became clear that being together under one roof was the right next step for all of us.”

And Lochte has been incredibly grateful to have Gillihan in his life, writing in a May Instagram post for her birthday that she “saved me in ways you’ll never fully understand.”

“When you came into my life, I was lost, broken, and honestly unsure of who I was anymore,” Lochte wrote. “Then you walked in and loved me for the real me not the swimmer, not the spotlight, not any of the outside noise… just me. And that kind of love changed my life forever.”

“Watching you love our family and everyone around you with soo much love and care has made me fall even more in love with you every single day,” he continued. “I truly don’t know where I’d be without you. Some people search their whole lives for a love like this… and I’ll never take ours for granted.”

Lochte and Gillihan’s marriage will be the second for the athlete. He was married to Reid from 2018 until 2025, when she filed for divorce.
