Jakarta (ANTARA) - Ministry expands education access with Starlink in North Nias
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is strengthening access to education, particularly in the disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost (3T) areas through the provision of electricity and Starlink-based internet connectivity, including in North Nias District, North Sumatra.
Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti said the provision of this basic infrastructure demonstrates the government's commitment to providing electricity and internet access to underserved schools.
"For schools without internet access and electricity, we have vowed to provide them with such an assistance," he remarked in a statement on Saturday.
According to him, his office had also provided various forms of support in the field prior to his working visit.
Mu'ti explained that the infrastructure provision was carried out through several assistance schemes.
For internet access, his office distributed Starlink devices to four elementary schools and seven junior high schools in North Nias District that previously lacked internet access.
Meanwhile, to support the improvement in the quality of education, his office also provided assistance of Rp25 million (US$1,364) each for electricity and internet installations, allocated to six elementary schools and one junior high school.
On the same occasion, Head of North Nias District Amizaro Waruwu expressed his appreciation for the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education's visit, which brought a direct impact on improving access to education in his region.
"The Minister's visit brought many gifts for us, this includes Starlink for elementary and junior high schools that previously lacked internet access. This way, we can be sure they will have internet access," Amizaro said.
He further noted that several schools in the area have gained access to internet connectivity and electricity, addressing long-standing infrastructure gaps.
"For schools that previously operated without electricity, the Minister's presence has facilitated the provision of LED lighting systems and other supporting equipment, which are now available in North Nias District," he remarked.
