
LUCENA CITY — Three members of the a family, including a two-year-old boy, were killed while a minor was wounded after they were allegedly repeatedly stabbed by a man in Talisay, Batangas, on Friday night, June 19, police said.
In a report released Saturday afternoon, the Talisay Municipal Police Station did not identify the victims, but were described as a 59-year-old woman, her 35-year-old daughter, and the latter’s two-year-old son, all residents of Barangay Aya.
A six-year-old boy, also a relative of the victims, sustained stab wounds and is now recovering in a hospital.

Police said the suspect, a 33-year-old welder from Barangay San Roque, Santo Tomas City, was arrested shortly after the incident, which occurred around 10 p.m.

Authorities said the suspect was identified by a surviving witness, a 13-year-old son of the 35-year-old victim, who, together with his 15-year-old sister, managed to escape the attack.
The two minors were reportedly inside a room when they heard commotion outside. They jumped out of a window and ran to seek help from relatives living nearby.
Police, led by Major El Cid Villanueva, chief of the Talisay Municipal Police Station, immediately launched a hot pursuit operation and arrested the suspect at his residence in Santo Tomas City at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, or about an hour and a half after the incident was reported.
Authorities also recovered the alleged weapon used in the attack, along with clothing believed to have been worn by the suspect.

Investigators said the suspect was the live-in partner of the sibling of the 35-year-old victim.
One of the angles being examined is the possibility that the attack was triggered by the suspect’s alleged fear of being charged with rape in connection with a separate incident involving the 15-year-old girl survivor.

Police said the victims had reportedly been prepared to support the filing of a rape complaint against the suspect.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is facing multiple murder charges and other criminal complaints. /apl
