Edinburgh Airport says it is working to resume normal services after the site was evacuated due to reports of potentially suspicious items.
Police said an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team attended after the discovery was made about 18:50 on Friday and the items were "made safe".
The force said the incident is not being treated as suspicious and the evacuation was a precaution.
The airport reopened in the early hours, but it said there would be "knock-on impacts" and long queues built up, extending outside the terminal building, on Saturday morning.
Roads around the airport were closed on Friday - police said they "remain busy" and have asked people to "be patient".
Officers said inquiries were ongoing and urged passengers to check ahead and contact their airline for updates.
Edinburgh Airport said it recognised passengers would be frustrated by the incident but that safety was a priority.
It said on Facebook: "Following investigations by specialist teams, the airport has now reopened.
"The incident will have knock-on impacts throughout today (Saturday) and staff are working hard to address these and support passengers.
"Operational teams are continuing to work to restore normal services as quickly as possible."
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SRFS) said they were alerted at 20:44 to assist the operation.
Three appliances and three "specialist resources" were attending the scene late on Friday evening.
