Voting was disrupted at a major polling unit in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, on Saturday, following repeated malfunctioning of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), leaving many stranded in long queues.
The development was observed at Polling Unit 018, located in the open space in front of the Federal Polytechnic, where voters complained of delays caused by intermittent failure of the accreditation device.
The polling unit, which has 884 registered voters, reportedly opened on schedule, with accreditation and voting commencing at about 8:30 a.m.
However, the smooth conduct of the exercise was later hampered as the BVAS device began experiencing technical hitches, slowing down the accreditation process and creating a backlog of voters waiting to cast their ballots.

When reporters visited the polling unit around 11:45 a.m., large queues had formed as electoral officials struggled to manage the accreditation process amid the recurring glitches.
Some voters expressed frustration over the delays, saying the malfunctioning device was prolonging the exercise and forcing them to wait for hours under the sun.
Despite the challenges, many of the voters remained at the polling unit, determined to participate in the governorship election while officials worked to address the technical problems.
As of the time of filing this report, accreditation and voting were continuing, albeit at a slower pace due to the BVAS malfunction.
