The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced counting of ballots in the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency of Kano State following today’s by-election.
The poll, conducted to fill the vacant seat left by the death of former lawmaker Muhammad Danjuma Hassan in April, was largely peaceful across the constituency, with no reports of violence or disruptions.
Security agencies maintained order at polling units, while election officials oversaw the process smoothly.
Despite the calm atmosphere, Daily Trust observed that the turnout was visibly low as polling stations recorded sparse participation, raising concerns about voter apathy.

Three candidates are vying for the seat, namely Rabiu Shuaibu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lawan Garba Haruna of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), and Abubakar Yahaya Muhammad of the Labour Party (LP).
The absence of major opposition parties such as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and National Democratic Congress (NDC) has shaped the race, with analysts suggesting the ruling APC may benefit from incumbency advantage.
