A young businessman, Isma’il Makaye, has died under unclear circumstances at the residence of his girlfriend, a popular Kano-based TikToker known as Fati Cele, in Danbare, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.
Makaye, who was engaged in the cosmetics business in the Hotoro Tishanma area, was said to have died in the early hours of Friday, prompting a police investigation into the incident.
A friend of the deceased, Hassan Mohammed, who was among those that went to the scene alongside police officers, told Daily Trust that Makaye was already dead before they arrived at the house.
According to him, the body was later taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital before being referred to Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital, where his death was officially confirmed.

“We met him already dead when we got there with the police. We first went to Murtala Hospital and later to Abdullahi Wase, where his death was confirmed,” Hassan said.
He further explained that Makaye and Fati Cele had been in a relationship for over two years, but temporarily separated when the deceased got married, before they later reconciled.
According to him, Makaye’s phones and his car keys were found at the scene.
He also alleged that the deceased sustained injuries on his head, claiming that there were signs of bleeding even at the time of his burial.
“There were injuries on his head, and we suspected he may have been hit with something,” he said.
Makaye was later buried on Friday at Unguwa Uku Yan Awaki according to Islamic rites.
The incident has continued to generate reactions on social media, particularly on TikTok, where users called for thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Fati Cele, who is originally from Borno State, is known for her TikTok content and solo dance performances in Sabon Gari area of Kano State.
As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson of the Kano State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, did not respond to telephone calls seeking comment.
Police have yet to issue an official statement, while investigations are ongoing.
