Germany came from a goal down to defeat Ivory Coast 2-1 in their 2026 FIFA World Cup Group E encounter, thanks to Denis Undav’s winner deep in added time in Toronto.
In the first ever competitive meeting between both sides, the Germans overcame a determined Ivory Coast who matched then for long stretches of the match.
The African nation went ahead through Franck Kessie in the first half before a second half collapse to the Europeans.
However, substitute Deniz Undav turned the game on its head with two clinical finishes in a match Ivory Coast failed to take their chances before Die Mannschaft scored the late winner.
Germany had the ball in the net through Paplovic’s header but the defender had infringed on the goalkeeper before the header, but Ivory Coast scored the legitimate goal on 30 minutes when Yan Diomande cross and Kessie netted after Amad Diallo’s initial shot was blocked.

Ivory Coast goalkeeper Yahia Fofana produced multiple saves in the latter stages to keep the Elephants in the encounter, but could not do anything about the winner four minutes into added time when the Stuttgart striker controlled Felix Nmecha’s pass before slotting into the net for the deserved winner.
Germany with two wins and six points have qualified for the round of 32, making it to the knockout round for the first time since 2014.
Ivory Coast will play Curacao in the final group match to claim a place in the knockout rounds.
