Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government will offer discounted fares across rail, sea, ferry and air transport during the 2026 school holidays to support mobility, household spending and tourism, Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said.
"The government is again implementing transportation fare discounts during the 2026 school holiday period and the Christmas and New Year holidays," Purwagandhi said in a statement on Saturday.
He said the policy reflects the government's commitment to providing safe, secure, comfortable and affordable transportation services during periods of heightened travel demand.
Purwagandhi said the measure is expected to lower travel costs while encouraging greater public mobility and economic activity during the holiday season.
"We hope the public will make optimal use of this incentive while generating positive impacts on transportation, tourism and the broader economy," he said.
The policy is outlined in a joint decree issued by the transportation minister, finance minister and Danantara chief, assigning state-owned transport companies to provide fare discounts.
The package includes a 30 percent discount on all commercial economy-class train services from June 20 to July 5, 2026, and a 30 percent discount on economy-class passenger sea transport routes from June 20 to Aug. 15.
Port service charges will also be waived for foot passengers and Category II and Category IVA vehicles from June 20 to July 5. The 100 percent discount applies at 14 ports on seven ferry routes.
In addition, the government will provide a 100 percent value-added tax incentive for scheduled economy-class airline tickets purchased for travel between June 24 and July 5, 2026.
The government expects the incentives to strengthen household purchasing power, support tourism activity and help sustain economic growth during the peak holiday travel period.
