Lyttelton cafe kitchen goes up in flames

Firefighters are working to extinguish a blaze at a cafe in the seaside town of Lyttelton.

Emergency services were called to a kitchen fire at The Shroom Room shortly before 8pm this evening.

Fire and Emergency shift manager Blair Walklin says the kitchen was engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

He said four trucks are in attendance and the fire is mostly out.

Walklin says the cafe was closed and there had been no reports of injuries, although a neighbouring property has been charred.
