
CEBU CITY, Philippines — An 18-year-old motorcycle rider died after crashing along the northbound lane of the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR) early Sunday morning, June 21, raising more questions about road safety.
Police identified the fatality as Yuri Benjamin Tatoy Gabut, 18, single, and a resident of Harmonis Residences in Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City.
Someone reported the crash around 4:54 a.m., and responding police officers conducted an investigation at about 6:20 a.m.

According to a report from the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), Gabut was driving a Yamaha Aerox motorcycle along the Cebu South Coastal Road.

Police said he had earlier made a U-turn near Il Corso and was heading northbound when he allegedly lost control of his motorcycle.
A security guard who witnessed what happened told authorities that the rider crashed after losing control of the vehicle.
The impact caused fatal injuries, and responding ambulance personnel declared Gabut dead at the scene.
His remains were later taken by a funeral service provider.
Authorities have yet to determine what caused the 18-year-old rider to lose control of the motorcycle and are continuing their investigation into the fatal crash.
