Up for rehabilitation
As part of the agency’s wildlife rescue and conservation efforts, the juvenile raptor was transferred to the Regional Wildlife Rescue Center-Region 12 (RWRC-12) in Lutayan, Sultan Kudarat, for further evaluation, proper care, and rehabilitation.
The RWRC-12 serves as a temporary refuge for rescued, surrendered, and confiscated wildlife species in the region.
Wildlife specialists at the facility, moreover, assess the health and condition of rescued animals and determine their readiness for release back into their natural habitats, contributing to biodiversity conservation and the protection of native wildlife populations.
Earlier this month, another juvenile Brahminy Kite eagle was rescued in Barangay Timan, Liloy town, Zamboanga del Norte after a concerned resident reported the distressed bird to the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO).
Roserverico Tan, chief of the Regional Strategic Communication and Initiatives Group (RSCIG) of DENR-9, told the Inquirer that CENRO-Liloy personnel retrieved the young raptor on Wednesday, June 3, following a report from Tito Elogsong, who found the bird in a weak condition near his residence./with reports from Leah D.
