The Sa’Rubochi of Rubochi Chiefdom in Kuje Area Council of the FCT, HRH Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Pada, has advised the chairman of Kuje Area Council, Samuel Danjuma Shekwolo, not to allow primary school teachers and council workers to embark on strike during his administration.
The monarch gave the advice when he received the council chairman and Vice Chairman, Hajiya Asabe Poyi, who were accompanied by two former chairmen of the council and some APC chieftains on a thank-you visit to his palace on Saturday.
He said that since the council had just been inaugurated, there was a need to ensure industrial harmony between the administration and labour unions.
According to him, the council administration should prioritise the welfare and all entitlements of teachers and council staff to avoid anything that could lead to industrial action.
“I said this because we know how primary school teachers went on strike, leaving our children at home for several months, while the area council secretariat also remained shut because of non-payment of arrears and other entitlements. So my advice is that you must try by all means to ensure industrial harmony between your administration and the labour unions,” he said.
The monarch called on his subjects, village and district heads, as well as community leaders and stakeholders, to support the new administration with prayers so that it could succeed in providing basic infrastructure to residents of Rubochi and the entire Kuje Area Council.
Responding, Shekwolo said his administration was determined to accord adequate priority to the education sector through the rehabilitation of dilapidated schools and improved welfare for teachers and council workers.
He informed the monarch that the council had developed a roadmap to address infrastructural deficits in the health and agriculture sectors, as well as human capital development.
The chairman, while appreciating the monarch for the reception accorded to him and his entourage, assured that his administration would also look into upgrading some village chiefs and placing them on monthly stipends.
