Troops of Sector 1 and Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), have recorded fresh operational successes in Kaduna and Zamfara states, rescuing kidnap victims, foiling terrorist attacks and arresting suspected criminals during intelligence-led operations.
On June 18, troops responded to a distress call on the movement of armed bandits in the Kerawa area of Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State and rescued three kidnap victims abandoned by fleeing criminals.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the victims, identified as Bilkisu Hayatu, Habibah Sadisu and one-year-old Abdulmutallib Sadisu, were evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicated that they were abducted from Kajenjere Tami Village on May 17 and were being transported to a terrorist hideout in Birnin Gwari before troops intercepted the kidnappers.
In Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2, in collaboration with other security agencies, foiled a planned terrorist attack on Gamdanda Village in Gummi Local Government Area after laying an ambush based on credible intelligence and engaging the attackers in a gun duel.
Following the operation, security forces recovered weapons, ammunition, eight motorcycles and food supplies, significantly disrupting the terrorists’ logistics and operational capability.
In a separate intelligence-led operation conducted alongside personnel of the Defence Intelligence Agency, troops arrested four suspected violent extremists and informants.
Security operatives also apprehended a suspected terrorist, Muhammad Mamman, whose inconsistent statements reportedly aroused suspicion and led to further investigation.
Meanwhile, troops in Maru Local Government Area repelled another terrorist attack with reinforcement from the 1 Brigade, inflicting heavy casualties on the assailants. Three soldiers, however, lost their lives during the encounter.
In another operation in Bakura Local Government Area, troops forced terrorists to retreat before they could carry out planned attacks on neighbouring communities.
