Singers and songwriters have expressed disappointment amid uncertainty surrounding the future of the Malta Eurovision Songwriting Bootcamp, with PBS yet to confirm whether it will return this year.
Organised by the national broadcaster in recent years, the six-day camp brought together local and international artists to collaborate on original music ahead of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest.
Three editions have been held so far, producing songs that later went on to represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest, including Miriana Conte’s Serving in 2025 and Aidan’s Bella in 2026.
According to a report by Times of Malta, several artists expressed they have not received any information about this year’s edition, noting that applications would normally have opened and closed by this stage.
One singer described the uncertainty as “disappointing”, saying the camp helped them develop as an artist, showcase their talents and build valuable industry connections. Another called it “a fantastic opportunity that goes beyond Eurovision”.
Asked whether the bootcamp would be held, PBS said that “all Eurovision-related activities for the upcoming season are currently in the planning stage and discussions are ongoing”, adding that further details will be announced in due course.
While praising the initiative’s creative value, some contributors also raised concerns about the lack of payment for the extensive hours invested by songwriters during the camp.
