CEBU CITY, Philippines — A personal grudge allegedly rooted in school bullying may have triggered the shooting inside a public high school in Tacloban City that left three students dead and seven others injured on Monday, June 22.
Initial findings by the Tacloban City Police Office (TCPO) indicated that the attack inside San Jose National High School in Barangay San Jose may have stemmed from a personal conflict involving the students.
Authorities stressed, however, that a thorough investigation is still ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Two minors under custody
Authorities said two students allegedly involved in the shooting are already in police custody.
One of the minors was immediately apprehended, while the other was taken into custody after police launched hot pursuit and manhunt operations.
In accordance with Republic Act No. 9344, or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006, as amended, police withheld the identities of the minors.
The two are under the custody of Police Station 1 and are expected to be referred to the City Social Welfare and Development Office while authorities carry out procedures under child protection and juvenile justice laws.
