Another day, another record bull sale.
In a sign of the strong agricultural economy, a single Angus bull has smashed the price record set just a week ago.
The Angus sold for $220,000 at auction in Gisborne today in Lot 3 of the Kaharau Angus sale during the Gisborne-East Coast Bull Week.
It was bought by a consortium of New Zealand breeders and an Australian stud farm, Ardrossan Angus.
The record smashed the previous price of $168,000 set a week ago at Taimate Angus, near Ward. They had been in the breeding industry for more than half a century but had never achieved the national record before.
That sale had raised the record of $161,000 set last year in Gisborne.
Today's price was set after a blistering start to the Kaharau Angus sale. The lot before went for $165,000 to the Umbrella Range farm in Southland.
The record bull was bought by a group from the Rolling Rock Angus stud in Te Akau, Waikato; Earnscleugh Station in Central Otago; and Ardrossan Angus, New South Wales.
