Romualdez orders immediate aid for Tacloban shooting victims

TACLOBAN CITY – Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez has directed the immediate delivery of financial, medical, and psychosocial assistance to students and families affected by an incident at San Jose National High School.

The Office of Rep. Romualdez said it coordinated directly with hospitals treating the wounded, informing medical personnel that it would cover all hospital expenses for affected individuals.

Authorities also confirmed that assistance has been extended to bereaved families, with funeral service providers coordinated and burial costs fully shouldered by the lawmaker’s office.

“Our priority is to ensure that the victims receive the medical care they need and that their families do not have to worry about the financial burden during this difficult time,” Romualdez said in a statement issued on Monday.

In addition to medical and burial support, the office has worked with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to deploy psychosocial intervention and counseling services for students, teachers, and other members of the school community impacted by the tragedy.

The Romualdez office said coordination with regional DSWD officials is ongoing to ensure the timely rollout of trauma support services.

Romualdez added that assistance efforts will continue in the coming days in coordination with local government units, schools, hospitals, and concerned agencies.

“No family should have to carry this burden alone. We will continue to stand beside the victims, their families, and everyone affected as they begin the difficult process of healing and recovery,” he said./coa
